Ole Schmidt graduated from the Amsterdamse Hoogeschool voor de Kunsten (NL), in ‘lichte muziek’. On returning to Germany, lived in Cologne, Duesseldorf and Leipzig before moving to Frankfurt am Main in 2010, where he is now living. In his work as a composer he is interested in improvisational processes and in transferring techniques developed in fine arts to the computer-processing of sound material; the production of compositional materials via recycling: subtracting, excavating and critique-ing (from Greek word kritikos= the ability to discern). He conceives, improvises and writes music for the theatre as well as experimental chamber music, sound installations and acoustical spaces for various ensembles.
